Funded by the Lo Ying Shek Chi Wai Foundation, Hands-On Parent Empowerment-20® Program (HOPE-20®) is one of the first locally-developed and evidence-based parent education programs in Hong Kong. It is based on a 3-year research conducted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The University of Hong Kong from 2012-2015.

Research and Effectiveness

The research aimed to promote children’s positive development through early intervention, featuring 20 sessions of childcare centre-based parent training for those with children aged 2-3. According to the research, parents greatly benefited from the program. Successful completion of the program enabled their children to perform much better in understanding concepts for preschoolers and acquiring language skills. Besides, the stress level of the parents was comparatively low and their children had fewer behavioral problems.
