Environmental pollution threatens children’s long-term growth and development, and influences human lives and environmental sustainability. Therefore, Healthy Seed also responds to environmental issues such as pollution and climate change. In 2018, Healthy Seed joined the “Water for Free” campaign founded by Go Green Hong Kong and sponsored by Great Eagle Group to install bottle-free drinking water dispensers for groups and schools in need in Hong Kong, offering free, clean and safe water. In addition, education talks were delivered in organizations such as kindergartens, nursery centres, primary schools and community centers to promote the concepts of “bring your own bottle”. This aims to reduce the use of disposable bottles and to raise public awareness on environmental protection.
Riding on its success, Great Eagle Group, Go Green Hong Kong and Healthy Seed decided to scale up their collaboration in 2019 in the “Say No to Plastic!” campaign. With an aim to further advocate the plastic-free message, urban farming workshops were added to the campaign, which helped deepen the participants’ understanding of the importance of reducing plastic waste disposal. Moreover, filter replacement and cleaning of water storage cisterns were arranged for the beneficiaries of the “Water for Free 2018/19” project, which had further encouraged the use of the drinking water dispensers while reducing the consumption of bottled water. The campaign subsequently expanded its services to secondary students, allowing more people to enjoy clean drinking water more easily and to understand the message of “reduction of waste plastics at source”.
